Overview and Reflection + Presentation Link

 Final Reflection

Overall, I found this project to be relatively tough. I am not the best with my own time management and this is something I am constantly working on and trying to improve upon. Throughout the duration of this project, I had a few events happen in my personal life that really knocked the wind out of my sales and got my time management even further out of sorts. I feel as though I gave this project my best shot and tried my best to contribute and provide the research resources my group needed in order to progress us to a great final product.

Group Overview

In terms of working in a group project for the first time at University, I found it to be rather difficult! We all have our own lives and unfortunately some of us have other commitments such as having to work a job to make ends meet making discussions and time to get together not always the easiest to plan! Me and my other teammates at Wellow Studio tried our best to work together to produce something that met the brief while also having a strong identity and brand for itself already. I think we definitely achieved in creating a unique and interesting setting for our game that would be an experience for the player! Everybody was really good at sharing things they had created and designed with each other to help the others in their own progression of the project. Everybody was really good at accommodating for each other and being flexible to each other's lives while making sure nobody was out of the loop and missed too much. Everybody in my team was really eager and open to each other's ideas and wanted everybody to have their fair chance to make decisions and contribute their own thoughts on different parts of the project. Nobody wanted too or tried to hog the spotlight and everybody was receptive to listening, understanding and sharing ideas and feedback with the rest of the team.

Independent Reflection

Throughout the course of this project, I feel as though I have worked well as a productive member of my team Wellow Studios and completed my role as a Research Lead quite well. As the Research lead, it was down to me to ensure that everything we would need for this project was being looked into and ample theory work had been done for all our design elements. It was my responsibility to make sure that everybody has direction when it came to their design work and new what styles, colours, and details our target audience would be looking for within our game. I also feel as though I did a good job of coming up with creative and unique ideas and designs to contribute to the rest of my teammates. I felt as though the idea to create a collectibles system was quite a unique feature that the other groups would maybe not have come up with that helped our group stand apart from the other teams.  I also feel as though the design work and 3D model I created for this project came out looking quite good and would have definitely met the tastes of our targeted audience were this game to reach full scale development.

In terms of my general performance throughout this project, I do feel that there are a number of things I did not achieve so highly at and could improve upon for the next time I am working in a group project or a brief with a similar format to this one. I feel as though while I was completing research and working on design work throughout the course of this project, I completely let my blog work slip. I ended up very behind on getting work uploaded into this blog space and had to do some major catchup to get back on track which I do feel I have managed to do. This came down to partly an event in my personal life as well as generally struggling with motivation and time management. I don't feel I am particularly an academic individual and my ability to concentrate has never been a strength of mine. I did however decide to come to Uni because I wanted to achieve something and gain some skills to help me in the art field. I do believe this project, while my time management may need work, has definitely shown me that my skills are improving even if some days it feels like they aren't. My ability to illustrate is getting quicker and more fluid and I am able to create pieces a bit easier. I also wish throughout this project, I had been more involved in the development of the weapons created to be used within our game. I provided some brief research on this topic and gave some feedback and opinions but I didn't do a whole lot for this aspect of the game. If I could do this project over again, my time management would definitely be number 1 on the list of things I would take more care over. Being a group project, I felt as though the pressure of my peers would be enough to keep me burning through work and on top of every thing that needed to be done but it was in fact quite opposite. With this brief being group self directed, there was a lot less guidance from the get go as to what we should be doing with our time through out the project. This meant that me and the other group members only have each other to rely on for direction. I feel like this slipped me up a lot because it meant that if one person wasn't organised, it caused a domino effect throughout the rest of the group.
