Building Alliances pt3
Planning and Discussions
This week, my group wanted to nail our idea for the project we aim to produce and started planning and brain storming the identity our game would take. We set up points of contact such as a discord workspace for us to communicate and share ideas together to build the project up as well as to gather feedback from each other. We also set up spaces to share our work within such as a one drive so we can all access the progress the project is making.
We held in person meeting to share our ideas and to work on different parts of the project together. As this project is very much a team effort and we all hold more responsibility in certain roles than the others, It is important to compare with each other to help the others push forwards. We brainstormed on various possible game genres and styles we were interested in to narrow down the sort of game we wanted to see in the end. As we could take the brief in any direction we liked, we could push the project in the direction of something educational and use bright colours with cartoon shapes to create a kids directed game, or we could work off the other end of the spectrum and use the concept of microplastics and change in the food chain to to produce a non-educational fantasy game. Something entirely fictional and purely for enjoyment. This could also go in multiple directions. It could be a cute game where you take care of animals that look like different plastic objects or it could be a darker horror game where you fight your way through hoards of infected animals. Similar to current existing zombie shooters. This is the direction we as a group leaned towards during early idea generation.
Collectively, we brainstormed ideas and assets our game would include as well as game mechanics and functions. This is so different members of the team knew what to be looking into and focusing on depending on their job roles. We decided a fun system to have in the game would be the ability to scrap together weapons from junk and parts located around the environment. All of our weapon designs would reflect this and be built up of pieces of trash and rubble. This would then work as part of an upgrade system where as you progress, you could improve your weapons with different parts and reinforcements. We also decided armour and protective gear would work in the same way.
Things to think about after meeting-
- What characters are surviving our game?
- What location are they in?
- What is the goal?
- What animals are present?
- What systems could we look into implementing to keep the game engaging?
- What weapons will the surviving group have access too?
- Why are the animals attacking?
- Why are the animals here?
